Value of Reproductive cloning
Reproductive cloning is when you “make a full living copy of an organism; requires a surrogate mother.” (1) We use what is call somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), which is putting the body cells nucleus into an egg where the nucleus has been removed. There are three different types of cloning (1) recombinant DNA technology (DNA cloning), (2) reproductive cloning, and (3) therapeutic cloning. There have been 18 surviving animal clones.
The cons of using reproductive cloning are not being able to understand what the clone is to you. What will you tell the clone when you have it? You are a made up organism from the child, husband, or loved one I’ve lost? Cloning will take away the differences that people have. Cloning will make an exact duplicate of a person and there would not be a uniqueness of that person. Reproductive cloning is used on animals, mostly. 95% of woman who try reproductive cloning are at risk for their health and for the clones health.
The pros of reproductive cloning is being able to clone a person of your interest. You are able to clone a child for yourself if you are unable to have children. You are able to replace a loved one you have lost and the grieving process will be much easier. Woman would be able to have their child with them for the rest of their lives if they use cloning.
Fertility does not always work. You would be able to use cloning as a way to get a child of your own. There are many gay and lesbian couples in the world that are not allowed to adopt or have children. It could be because of infertility. Cloning gives everyone a chance to be able to have children.
My thoughts about cloning are very creepy. I just keep thinking of being able to clone one another and how that would affect the world. How could you have two of the same exact person. Would we have to do a special screening on people before they buy a clone of themselves? What if the person turns psycho and has their clone follow their lead? Then we would have two maniacs in the world, running loose. I personally think it is ok for reproductive cloning to happen in animals because there are many animals that are going extinct and we need all living creatures to survive. But cloning a human being is not how I see the world going. I don’t think it is safe and it really creeps me out! I couldn’t imagine bringing back to life someone from the past. That’s not in Gods nature to bring back the same person twice. I think it would be messing with religion and morals of people.
It’s a tough subject to go on and on about. You will get many different sides of the story. Just think and ask yourself, would I really be able to have a clone of myself in the world?
